Napa Valley is home to hundreds of wineries, offering first-class wines that are renowned around the world. In addition to taking in the assortment of wines, the wineries offer panoramic views, impressive architecture, elegant art, a rich history, gardens and an escape from the world. Each winery is unique and offers different features and benefits than the other wineries. The panoramic views, architecture and art are just three features to consider when choosing wineries to visit in Napa Valley.
Panoramic Views
Every winery offers beautiful views of the Napa Valley, perfect for the photographer or outdoor enthusiast to enjoy. Often the wineries are at a higher elevation, giving the guest a beautiful view of the rolling hills, large vineyards and blue skies of the Napa Valley. Because of the elevated view, some wineries offer a more unique view than others. Chappellet Vineyard, at an elevation of 1,800 feet, offers views of the forest, meadows and Lake Hennessey. Sterling Vineyards feature an aerial tram that takes guests up to the winery, offering picturesque views on the trip.
Architecture
While many of the wineries have beautiful barns or Mediterranean-style architecture, there are some wineries with a more unique architectural style. The Quixote Winery features an uneven brick-lined roof, an eclectic tile pattern and a golden dome, making it different from other wineries in the valley. The Del Dotto Estate Winery has more traditional architecture, but is done in excess. Completed by a crew from Italy to make it as authentic as possible, the 175-year old pillars and ceiling tile work that mirror the Doges Palace in Venice make it a must-visit winery for those who enjoy Italian architecture.
Art
Often the exquisite assortment of art in the Napa Valley wineries are as celebrated as the wine itself. The galleries in many wineries offer an array of sculptures, paintings, photography and other works of art for guests to enjoy while tasting the wine. The winery galleries are curated by owners who are well-cultured and well-traveled, building art galleries that will attract art enthusiasts from around the world. Turnbull Wine Cellars features an entire art gallery that continually changes, complete with a cathedral ceiling and antique bar. This winery also features one of the largest permanent photography exhibits on the West coast, with over 90 different works from celebrated photographers. The Hess Collection features more contemporary art, collected by avid art collector Donald Hess, who owns the winery. His art is featured in museums worldwide, but the winery houses approximately a quarter of his collection for guests to enjoy.
Whether visiting Napa Valley to taste the exclusive wines, to learn about history, or to just get away, taking in the different views, architecture and art of the wineries is a unique experience that will make any visit to the valley more fulfilling.
